Custom error messages are not being displayed/used

Hi,
I am using CKforms on a german language site. I have added custom error messages to all my fields. However, when the forms get displayed, only the default english messages are being used to indicate user input errors. Is that a bug, or do I need to change any setting to use the custom error messages?
